Firefighter Enters Burning Building

Rocky Jones drags a hose into a burning building.  Perhaps even more challenging than the physical labor associated with firefighting were the acts of discrimination and sexism that female FDNY members experienced on a daily basis.

Prompted by a chance to connect with fellow female force members whose shared experiences included micro-aggressions and some blatantly hateful acts of sexism, female FDNY members came together to form the UWF: United Women Firefighters.
